The fun ultra sound scan

The fun ultra sound scan

A glimpse of the future…

Glowing of suspense and beaming for what will come, many parents to be enter the buro for ultra sound scans, to catch a glimpse  of the future in advance.

The fun ultra sound scan is a relatively new phenomenom, only the last couple of years on the rise. The technology offers us the possibility of looking at the future in advance, brood more and more realistically on the screen.

Where in former days the ultra sound scan served exlusively as a supplement on medical research in the pregnancy, more and more parents consult the echoburo to reveal the sex of the baby in advance or simply to follow up the growth of the baby.

A ultra sound scan is a translation of sound waves to a picture. A echoscopie arises by means of ultra sound waves. These have such a high frequency, they can’t be heared by the human ear. The waves are transmitted by transducer (the appliance that touches your abdomen) and are reverberated by the organs in your body whereupon they are converted into pictures.

As from week 19 of your pregnancy the sex of your baby can be stipulated. This may come in handy if you want to anticipate the arrangement of the baby chamber, although there is no 100% certainty.

There is not really a period on wich you get the most beautiful pictures.Every age has his charm but by far most of te ultra sound scans are made between week 16 and week 24. Making a ultra sound scan is completely safe. This technology has been practiced for over 25 years without any negative effects.

A fun ultra sound scan generaly last a half hour in wich every part of your baby gets illuminated. Mostly it is possible to link the ultra sound scan to a video or dvd so you can watch it at home as many times as you like.

Boy or Girl

Boy or girl?

In the 13th century there was a Chinese scientist who made a chart that predicted with a high factor of certainty the sex of the baby. Chinese women already knew, but when the chart was tested in the USA, the results were correct for over 90% (disclaimer: this chart only indicates, there is no 100% certainty)

So look for the month of impregnation and your age at that moment.

You ‘ll find a G for a girl, and a B for a boy.

Good luck.

Layette

What’s in a layette?

What should we put on our registry? I’m totally overwhelmed- it feels like there’s so much to get. What do we really need, and what is just a luxury?

A layette is basically the collection of clothes a newborn will need, though the term is also used to refer to all basic supplies for an infant. We’ll use it in terms of newborn clothing.

Infants grow quickly — though baby will be tiny upon arrival, newborn sizes will soon be too small. Opt for slightly larger sizes, and don’t buy too much in advance. Once baby arrives, you’ll have a better idea of what sizes and styles work best. Choose soft and comfortable materials, fasteners that close easily, and finished seams. Check for snaps, buttons and tags that might scratch, and avoid zippers, which can pinch. Exactly how many of each item you’ll need depends on how often you do laundry — our suggestions are estimates. (Items with a * are must-haves.)
4-8 bodysuits or onesies (wide head openings and loose legs)
4-8 undershirts or vests (snaps at neck or wide head openings, snaps under crotch)*
 4-8 one-piece pajamas*

2 blanket sleepers for winter baby
1-3 sweaters or jackets (front buttoned)
1-3 rompers or other dress-up outfits*
4-7 socks or booties (shoes are unnecessary until baby walks)*
1-3 hats (broad-brimmed for summer baby, soft cap that covers ears for winter baby)*
 No-scratch mittens
Bunting bag or fleece suit for winter baby

 Swimsuit for summer baby
 Gentle laundry detergent

What is a layette?

What is a layette?

A layette is a collection of clothes and bedding for a new baby. In the past, women would have hand-sewn everything during their pregnancy. Fortunately now, we can buy everything instead, so here’s a rundown to help you put together your shopping list.

What to wear

  • A cardigan or two to provide an extra layer of clothing for your baby when it’s cold. Cardigans are better than jumpers because small babies tend not to like having clothes pulled over their heads.
  • Three or four cotton vests and body suits with envelope necks and poppers underneath.
  • Nighties with drawstrings at the bottom are very useful for night-time nappy changing.
  • A soft hat or bonnet to wear outside if your baby is born in winter.
  • A soft blanket or two to wrap and cuddle your baby in.
  • Half a dozen babygros, sleepsuits and all-in-ones.

What to sleep in

Although you can now buy baby sleeping bags for newborn babies, most parents start off with cotton sheets and blankets. They make it easy to keep your baby at the right temperature because you can simply add or take away a layer if your baby is too cold or too hot. If your baby starts off in a carrycot or Moses basket, you can buy special “pram size” sheets and blankets. However, you could cut or fold up sheets from an adult bed if you don’t want to buy sheets especially for a cot.

What’s practical

Muslin squares are great for mopping up baby sick and can be used as a soft surface for your baby’s head to rest on in his pram or cot.

A couple of small towels or special baby towels with hoods on them are useful for bath time and keeping your baby warm afterwards.

Buying tips

Make sure everything you buy is machine-washable! Where possible, try to buy everything in 100 per cent cotton, too. Eczema is more common than you think. Many of the fleecy polyester jackets and blankets can make your baby too hot and irritate his skin.

Keep all your receipts and buy a mixture of sizes. Have a couple of newborn outfits ready but remember, your baby will outgrow these quickly and may be born larger than you think. If you buy an outfit for a baby aged 3-6 months, bear in mind that it may be a different season by the time your baby wears it.

Remember to wash everything you buy before use in non-biological washing powder, to avoid irritating your young baby’s sensitive skin.

Buy the basics before your baby is born and put aside some money to buy some more later. Friends and family are likely to buy clothes as presents and it’s easy to end up with far too many first-size clothes which may never be worn. The National Childbirth Trust holds Nearly New Sales in most parts of the country and that’s where you can pick up second-hand baby clothes at really reasonable prices or sell yours to make some money.

The cost of a baby: $ 8.443

From buggy to nursery to baby clothes, baby food and daipers: a baby costs a lot of money.

Research shows that young parents spend $ 8.443 on baby stuff during pregnancy and the first year of their sprout. Many shops affirm that this amount is by no means exagerated.

Just under $ 8.500, that’s how much young parents spend by average on baby stuff before the first birthday of their baby. One thirth of this amount is already spent during pregnancy, among other things on the buggy. A couple that buys everything new, needs between 2.000 and 2750 USD for their basic set. That is, if they don’t go for luxury or design goods. Every parent can choose how far he goes. There are nurseries that cost under 700 USD, but there are also nurseries that cost 3.000 or even 6.000 USD!

Nutrition and daipers

Yet the total package of a baby’s layette has not become more expensive than 10 years ago. For example, the price for baby car seats has risen, because they have become better and safer. Nurseries on the other hand have been down priced. The biggest costs for young parents are baby nutrition ($ 1.795) and diapers ($1.437). But before birth aspecially the buggy, the washbasin and the furniture are the greatest costs. Of course, for the second or thirth baby, not all of this investments are necessary.

Fortunately in most countries, young parents get lot of gifts. Especially the greatparents are very generous.

Having a baby is expensive, but as a mama said: ‘It may be expensive, but I don’t really want to think about that, you get so much in return!

Bicycle-trailers

You want to be active?

You want to be outdoors?

You want to be a family?

Why not ride the bike with the children to the beach or to the park?

Or what about going shopping in the city with the children on your bike?

If you have children and love to ride your bicycle, you will undoubtedly sing the praises of a quality child bicycle trailer. There is, without a doubt, no better means of transporting children (or cargo, for that matter) when traveling or exercising on your bike. It is possible, safe and comfortable, with the new generation of  bike-trailers, 1-seater or 2-seater. A few well-known manufacturers are Adventure, SunLite, Schwinn, Kettler, Raleigh and KID CAR Company. They bild bicycletrailers that carry your children safely and securely behind your bicycle.

Some of them even have convertible trailers/joggers. Bicycle Trailers have converted to strollers for a while now, but with the rise in popularity to Jogging Strollers, and with high expectation from the consumer, the innovation is getting better and better. There are swivel wheel options and fixed wheel options and some offer both. Swivel wheels make it easy to turn on a dime and swivel around a store, mall, street fair, etc. Swivel wheels will not work on the beach. The fixed wheel are more appropriate for running, jogging, or beach travel.

What a way to spend a beautiful day with the family: ride the bike, go for a walk or combine the two; In these bike-trailers the kids (or even your dog) have plenty of space; they can also bring allong their toys or other luggage. And why not put a safetyflag on your trailer.

Have fun, be active, go outdoors, be a family :-)
